Work & Income That Must Be Reported to SSA When Receiving Disability Benefits

If you are approved and are receiving Disability Benefits from the Social Security Administration, you must report changes in job status, employer, work hours, and pay.
Changes in work status if you:
Stop working, change a job, or receive a new job offer
Begin or end self-employment
Have an increase or decrease of work hours or pay
Income from work
According to the Social Security Administration, if you earn more than $1,160 gross income per month, you report your wages online through your Social Security account.

Public disability from a state or local government
Getting workers’ compensation and public disability from a state or local government may affect your disability payment amount. To avoid overpayments, tell the Social Security Administration if you get these benefits or if the amount you get changes.

You should complete a Statement of Claimant or Other Person (Form SSA-795) (PDF). Gather supporting information that includes:
A brief explanation of your work status or income change.
The date of the change.
